Leave of Absence from Primary Education

You have the option to apply for a leave of absence from primary education for your child, but approval is not guaranteed.
Description
Students may be granted a leave of absence from primary education for up to two weeks. The school will assess whether granting leave is justifiable. A leave of absence exceeding two weeks at a time is not permitted. Students who belong to a religious community outside the Church of Norway have the right to leave on their religious holidays. Parents must ensure that their child receives the necessary instruction during the leave period so that they can keep up with regular lessons upon returning to school.

Processing Time
The municipality must process the application as soon as possible. If the case cannot be decided within one month, you must receive written notification explaining the delay. You will also be informed of the estimated decision date.
Right to Appeal
If you are dissatisfied with the decision, you may appeal to the municipality within three weeks of receiving it. Explain what you disagree with and why you believe the decision should be changed. If you need guidance, you can contact the municipality. If the municipality upholds its decision, the case will be forwarded to the County Governor, who will determine whether the appeal is upheld.
